# Authentication

> Bearer API tokens

Requests are authenticated with an API token, passed as a bearer header:

Create and revoke tokens from the [dashboard](https://app.compliapi.com/dashboard/tokens). The plaintext token is shown **once** at creation — store it securely. Tokens are scoped to your organization; all usage counts against your organization's monthly quota.

Requests over quota return `402` with the option to pay per request or upgrade your plan. No account at all? Every metered endpoint also accepts [x402 micropayments](/payments) instead of a token.
